What makes a business website convert

Clarity before persuasion

Most sites that underperform are not unpersuasive. They are unclear. A visitor cannot tell what is being offered, who it is for, or what happens after they make contact, and so they do nothing.

Remove the unanswered question

Every enquiry form competes with a list of questions the visitor has not had answered: what this costs, how long it takes, who else you have done it for, what the first step involves. Answer those on the page and the form stops feeling like a risk.

Speed is a conversion feature

Performance is not a technical vanity metric. A page that takes four seconds to become useful has already lost a share of its audience before any of the copy is read.

Then test

Testing is valuable once the fundamentals are sound. Running experiments on a page nobody understands mostly produces noise.

Clarity Depends on the Audience

What counts as clear depends on who is visiting. Trades such as roofing, plumbing and HVAC need a fast route to a call or quote. Law firms, dental and medical practices need plain explanations whose professional wording they approve. Estate agents need to show local knowledge, and logistics companies need separate routes for shippers and drivers.
